If you've been waiting for the Pixel Slate 2 or Pixel C2, we've got some bad news: Google has said it will no longer manufacture its branded tablet - Android, Chrome, or anyone else. Google has confirmed a report stating that the company is working on tablets. It said the decision was made public at the company's internal meeting in June and included two small-sized tablets that were in development.
A Google spokesperson said: "Chrome OS has gained popularity for a variety of reasons, and we will continue to work with partners' ecosystems on our laptops and tablets. , We will focus on Chrome OS laptops and continue to support Pixel Slate.
It's probably for the best. Although Google's Android phones and Chrome OS laptops are the best in the business, the tablets do drop the desired amount. They may look pretty in the renders, but none of the Google users have had a candle on the iPad or surface, and Google has not complied with the regular update schedule. Pixel C was launched in 2015 and has not received a hardware update since - and stopped getting Android updates with Oreo 8.1 a year ago.
Frankly, Google has never really accepted Android on tablets, and Chrome OS is a good fit for the laptop form factor. Google replaces the Chrome OS UI with version 70, which provides separate interfaces for keyboard- and touch-centric form factors, but it's more like a laptop than a tablet at home. My experience with the Pixel Slate was less excellent despite the really beautiful hardware.
This decision will pave the way for a new pixel book this year. Rumors have suggested that Google is working on pursuing its premium Chrome OS-based laptop, and working on its statement has opened up a new laptop. But if you're waiting for a smaller or cheaper pixel slate, you're out of luck.
